A fourth place at the World Cup for KF2 with Loïc Reguillon, a 19-place recovery staged by Alban Varutti, another top 10 by Anthony Abbasse at the World Championship for KF1 and, most of all, the second place in the World Cup for Teams… The Sodi chassis of the new 2009 series showed a remarkable potential at the Muro Leccese circuit, last 21st of September. Just like the new decoration displayed by the KF1 drivers, the French brand did not go unnoticed at the top of world competitions.
KF1: Second at the World Cup for Teams
On its first official appearance preceding its homologation this winter, the new Sodi ST 32 chassis showed immediately its full potential; indeed the performances achieved by Anthony Abbasse and Alban Varutti allowed Sodi to reach the second place in the World Cup for Teams. "The new chassis is very promising", Anthony confirmed. "I felt extremely comfortable driving it, it gives you a sense of confidence. Pure performances demonstrated we were very competitive, as proved by the excellent times I set during the final phase, very close to the leaders". The driver from the french team was sorry that he could not qualify in a better position, but his progression in the ranking was certainly remarkable. "I lost some time in the pack owing to my place on the grid, but a 9th place in a World Championship is an excellent result".
As for Alban Varutti, he was twice in the top 10 during the qualifying heats and showed extreme confidence during the rest of the round. Unfortunately he suffered a collision at the start of the final and found himself at the end of the group. "It was an unfortunate accident, which forced me to start 31st in the final" Alban commented. "Pity, because the competitiveness of my Sodi-Parilla was evident and I missed an opportunity to finish in the top 5". However, Alban made an excellent race at the wheel of his new Sodi ST 32. He climbed 19 places and crossed the finishing line in 12th position.
KF2: Reguillon Very Close to a Podium
On the Italian circuit of La Conca, Loïc Reguillon and the Braun Racing Team showed world-level performances on their Sodi-Parilla karts during the three days of the event. "In KF2, we used the new SR6 chassis, which is an evolution of previous SR5", pointed out the technical manager of the French brand. "We have reached a new level in terms of technology, effectiveness and easiness of use. It was on this model that Tanguy Carel arrived 6th at the European KF3 Championship two weeks ago".
Fourth in timed qualifying out of 90 participants, Reguillon managed to climb up a place in the qualifying marathon. "I set the best time three times during free practice, so I felt pretty confident", said the best Frenchman of the weekend. "The chassis was very reliable throughout my five qualifying heats and I was able to conquer good positions every time". The only annoyance for Loïc was the back pain he suffered from. For him, the 30-km final was long and trying. But everything went fine at the start of the race, because he was immediately in the wake of the first three drivers. Reguillon drove at the same pace as they did. At mid race, in the final, he had some good chances of conquering a podium, but Loïc experienced some difficulties and finished 4th. "Although we came very close to a podium, finishing a World Cup with this rank is great", his team commented.
