SODI chassis were up to expectations at the important appointment with the GPO series in early October. On the difficult track of Ostricourt, where grip conditions kept changing, the French chassis collected a long list of pole positions, best laps and podiums, in addition to the superb victories taken by Pierre Ragues (KZ2) and Pierre Gasly (KF3).
Sodikart's policy of offering its customers a chassis capable of winning in all the categories and under every condition continues to bear fruits. At the Ostricourt GPO, karters wearing the famous SODI suit gave a karting masterclass and showed beyond doubt the competitiveness of their chassis.
Pierre Ragues, who races with a private team (Racing Services), crossed the finishing line alone in the KZ2 final. "That was great" he exclaimed! "Due to my car racing schedule (Le Mans Series), I could only race in two GPOs this season, but I was competitive every time. I made the podium in Angerville at the beginning of the season, and I have won here, thanks to my very good performances throughout the weekend. But I would also like to pay tribute to Anthony, leader of the official team, who also deserved to win on Sunday". How very true!
After reaching the pole, the SODI driver had a comfortable advantage when a mechanical problem prompted the early end of his race. "I was in control of the situation" he commented. "In the pre-final I won with a chassis that was fantastic from the first to the last lap, and I also set the best lap. The same happened in the final". On Saturday, Abbasse took second place in the final after winning the pre-final. Now that he has scored these important points in the North of France, he stays in the race for the title, which will be awarded in Lyon in three weeks' time. SODI's collective success include a 4th place, first by Eric Ramon and then by Mathias Gallepe.
KF3: Gasly and SODI A Step Above All The Others
In KF3, Pierre Gasly had a dominant Sunday. After a pole position and a victory in pre-final, he went it all alone in the final, with a best lap that finally confirmed the formidable effectiveness of SODI ST32, equipped with a Parilla engine. "It wasn't easy, though", the new 3rd of the World Cup admitted. "The track was soaking wet during timed qualifying and remained tricky in the pre-final, but fortunately grip was back in the final. Each time, I could make the difference. But I didn't expect I could build a 4-second gap in pre-final and a gap of over 5 seconds in the final!” So Gasly, who last year was still racing in the Cadet category, headed full speed to the second place in the French KF3 Championship.
A few comments by Nicola De Cola, SODI's team manager
"SODI chassis continue to monopolise top standings. On Sunday alone, at the Ostricourt GPO, drivers wearing our colours gained the three poles in the KZ2, KF2 and KF3 categories, and then won two pre-finals and two finals. Pierre Ragues and Pierre Gasly dominated the races in their category, while Loïc Reguillon made the podium again in KF2, where he remains a candidate for the title of French Champion. The same excellent results have been achieved at international level as well as in France. In Rotax Euro Challenge, we took four victories with our SODI chassis and we became Rotax Master Champion. In Rotax Max, Morgan Riche is current leader of the Rotax 2009 Championship. This is all very positive!”
