With the participation of several prestigious teams and some of the best drivers in the world, the longest and most difficult event on the karting calendar witnessed once again the triumph of an extraordinary team, RTKF-SODI, led by Claude Jamin, on the Alain Prost circuit. Driven with great ability by the quartet of drivers «Abbasse-Lecarpentier-Poulain-Fiault», the SODI chassis proved again its exceptional capacity to remain reliable and effective on such a long distance. When the chequered flag was waived, the whole team exploded with joy after a new success at this 25th edition of the 24 Hours. Claude Jamin, «boss» of the team, found it hard to conceal his excitement, but took the time to analyse the performances of the No. 1 kart he is in charge with. "It is a great satisfaction for RTKF, for which I would also like to thank the Sodikart Group. Their know-how and the quality of their products gave us incomparable help. While many teams had to face numerous problems, we ran a clean and fast race. Kart components such as the rear shaft, the suspensions or the steering column are under heavy stress during the 24 hours, but they held on just fine. The same can be said about the tubing. I am also proud to announce that the winning chassis here at Le Mans will be used again at the end of the Euro Endurance Series 2010".The Sodi/Reedster went like a clock from the beginning to the end of the race. Always in the lead group during the first hours, the RTKF-SODI Team took as few risks as possible, before they inexorably shifted to higher gear and build a solid advantage lap after lap. At mid-race they already had a 9-lap lead over their nearest challenger. And on Sunday, at 3 p.m., Anthony Abbasse crossed the finish line with a 12-lap lead, with RTKF-SODI kart no. 72 driven by the American Andrick Zeen on his side. "It was a tribute I wanted to pay to Sodi", Claude Jamin continued. "The kart that won in 2009 was side by side to the one that has triumphed this year and the two karts where driven by the two Sodi official drivers who are with us".5,80 seconds to resupply (change of driver, refuelling, greasing of the chain and check of safety elements) and 1'10" to change the engine, the brake pads and the tyres: this gives an idea of the hard preparation work made by RTKF together with Sodikart. This second victory in a row for Sodi ST32 did not come by accident for a brand that continues to win on all fronts, from Mini-Kart to KZ1, from speed to endurance races! Thanks to this new success, the RTKF-SODI Team has already secured the Euro Endurance Series title for itself. "Sodi gives us performances and reliability, so our goal is to win all major endurance races in the World. Grand slam in sight!" Claude Jamin concluded, exhausted but happy.

The competitiveness of the Sodi chassis was just as evident as always in the hot weather, with four more victories conquered by four different drivers: Pierre Ragues and Anthony Abbasse in KZ2, as well as Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly in KF3."It's great when you keep winning like that, and you can get closer to your final goal, i.e. becoming French Champion", Anthony Abbasse and Pierre Gasly declared enthusiastically at the press conference."On Saturday, we also had three Sodi chassis in the first four places in KZ2 and we achieved a double success in KF3, not to mention the top-level performances shown by Alexandre Baron in KF2", added Nicola De Cola - team manager of Sodi Racing Team.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

In blazing hot temperatures, the French chassis reached a very high level of effectiveness, both in KF and in KZ. Now that the season has passed the halfway mark, Anthony Abbasse (KZ2) and Pierre Gasly (KF3) are riding high at the top of their respective French Championships, with Pierre Ragues and Charles Leclerc (also on Sodi), chasing after them. The same holds true for the Constructors' Championship, dominated by Sodi in these two categories. By combining high performances on short runs, to conquer a pole position, and reliability during the full length of a final, ST30 and ST32 Sodi chassis allowed their drivers to achieve excellent results on the Lyon track, which offered ideal grip conditions, especially in this summer period. "I have not been racing for Sodi for long but I am already benefiting of the advantages", Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, who won Saturday's KF3 final, pointed out. "I like how the chassis behaves, it really makes the driver feel confident. In two GPOs with Sodi, I have already made the top step of the podium twice and I am back to second place in the Championship standings. It is a great satisfaction, especially because it is my team mate Pierre Gasly, more experienced than I am, who precedes me".Indeed, Gasly is still the master of this category in the GPOs. After conquering the title of Vice European Champion in KF3, he secured a double success Sodi-Parilla on the first day, and then he shifted to higher gear on Sunday, when he won the final with a comfortable advantage of almost three seconds...The Sodi brand also achieved an extraordinary collective success in KZ2, with three chassis in the first four places on Saturday, then three chassis in the first five the following day. The names of the drivers who crafted the two victories are Anthony Abbasse and Pierre Ragues, who now shares his time between karts and cars. "If I continue with karting, it is because it gives me huge pleasure. And this is more so with my Sodi chassis, which is incredibly effective. I am very happy it enabled me to find my way to victory again in such a competitive series as karting GPOs", Pierre stressed. On Sunday, Anthony Abbasse never left the first place, during warm-up, timed qualifying, pre-final and final, each time with best lap time in race. Anthony was over the moon: "I was already satisfied I had found my way up from 23rd to 4th place on the first day after a collision during the pre-final. The following day, my Sodi-TM was constantly just as fast. The chassis kept high performances from the first to the last lap, while preserving tyres in very good state".The last comment comes from Nicola De Cola, the team manager of Sodi Racing Team: "I hope I can have more weekends like this in the future! July was overall an excellent month. The Sodi brand was not only successful at international level with the European vice champion title and Alex Baron's performances in the U18 World Championship, but also in all the regions and at national level with, for example, the title of French Champion "Minime" conquered by Jérémy Demarque with a MCS 5 Sodi, exactly one week before Lyon".

With 6 drivers defending the team's colours, the French brand was third in the constructors' classification in Germany and according to the team manager: «We had the means to have at least 5 of our drivers qualify for the finals. Things started to go bad with Roussel's carburettor, which saturated with water in timed qualifying, and then Zeen was nastily pushed out in a heat». Léo Roussel tried to regain ground with great determination, but when he had to retire in the last heat he missed out qualification (though narrowly). With a knee injury suffered in the accident, Andrick Zeen followed the same fate. A pity, because with his 15th best time in timed qualifying he largely deserved to pass. Meanwhile, Alex Baron showed excellent race performances: 8th in timed qualifying, he just kept going better in the heats against his most formidable rivals and finished second in one of the races. No doubt about it: the Sodi chassis were in on it! Mathieu Jaminet alternated some good performances (twice third) to poor ones in the heats. A nice surprise came from British driver Henry Easthope, especially at ease in this very competitive environment. He improved his situation after a distant 55th place in timed qualifying and reached 20th place at the end of the heats, winning his ticket for the finals. A bit in the background, Enzo Marchetti could not find the right pace. While Roussel was third in the consolation final, the three qualified drivers started the difficult phase of the pre-finals. Once again, Baron showed some excellent performances with a 7th place in the first pre-final and, in particular, a 9th place in the second one, which had a reversed start grid (that means an 18-place recovery during the race!). Jaminet and Easthope were delayed during the intense fights that marked the race. 4th at the start of the final - the decisive race for awarding of points - Baron could still have some real podium ambitions. Unfortunately, he was violently hit on the first bend by an Italian driver, who was immediately excluded from the race by sport commissioners. But the damage was done for Baron, who slipped back to 30th on the first passage at the wheel of a warped chassis. Despite all that, he reached 18th with some stunning times. Jaminet conquered 10 places, Easthope 14 and they finished respectively 12th and 16th. Nicola De Cola: «Though he was 4 kilos below the mini weight, Alex Baron remained at the top throughout the weekend. Of course, the final result was disappointing, but it is the hard law of competition and we have shown that our equipment is at the top of the form, with all our drivers. Our performances did not go unnoticed and we have already been contacted by a few new drivers for next round». Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

In this highly competitive environment full of pitfalls, Sodi achieved a fantastic result with Pierre Gasly, who was crowned Vice European Champion in KF3, at the end of a final with several coups de theatre that put the nerves of the team to the test.Already during the first practice sessions, Pierre's times confirmed the excellent state of form of the driver and his equipment. The excellent job made by the Sodi Racing Team to find the right adjustments, as well as a busy race calendar, which included the WSK Euro Series and the GPO, allowed the team to reach maturity in time for the first major rendezvous of the season. «Pierre came very close to the pole, but was hampered during the last lap in timed qualifying and had to content himself with a 4th time not up to our expectations» Nicola De Cola, the Team Manager, explained.During the four heats, he kept a level of performances worthy of a real leader of the category (twice best lap time in race), Pierre was penalised by 10" in one heat for a very questionable early start, which pushed him back to 13th place in the provisional general standings. A result that was far from reflecting his real level of performances and pushed the whole team to work twice as hard to prepare for the final phases. «Frankly, we have the perfect kart to win» Nicola confessed before the start. «IAME supplied us with top engines and our chassis is certainly the best on the market. As for the driver, he has all my confidence. I simply hope that all races are fair, that's all».In a pre-final, where the assigned goal was first of all caution and a return to top places, Pierre did his job, conquered 8 places and was ideally placed in 5th before the final showdown!Very ready at the start, Sodi's official driver reached 3rd place immediately at the first turn. Unfortunately several drivers cut the track in the middle of the red and white area and pushed him out of trajectory...6 places back. Evidently the story changed and podium hopes seemed to be gone... but..., but kart n° 120 started to «fly» and to gain ground at very high speed on his rivals, overtaking them one by one. The Gasly/Sodi team was irresistible, with an amazing performance! 3rd when the line of arrival was in sight, Pierre tried to conquer the second place on the finish line to offer Sodi the title of Vice European Champion. A true masterpiece...«Given the circumstances, we are very happy anyway. Pierre did a great job, nothing to say about that, well done. And he was not the only one, the team was virtually perfect. With the time lost (unfairly, I must say) at the beginning of the race, it was impossible to try and go after the leader, but without that...the title was definitely within our reach! It's a pity that some drivers distorted the race with impunity by crossing the track and pushing everybody around. For me, this is not what competition is about, it's a behaviour that distorts everything...»Thanks to its remarkable performances, now the Sodi Racing Team is planning the rest of the season with greater determination: French Championship and World Cup are already on the horizon for Pierre and his team mates...who will not be idle this summer, no doubt about that!

This success rewarded the French constructor of all efforts made in international competition, but also left the team with a faint feeling of disappointment because excellent performances by the Gasly/Sodi had raised hopes of victory. The European title did not end up in France for a hair's breadth. The Genk track is a very technical one and race management is extremely complicated. High temperatures at the Limburgian meeting, the stake of the meeting, the impetuousness of certain participants were as many factors that pre-empted exploitation of the full potential of the team. «We had everything it took to win», explained Nicola De Cola, SRT team principal. «We know our equipment perfectly well and our driver knows how to make full use of all his resources, when needed. I must confess that I am a little disappointed at sport commissioners. It is not normal that drivers can cut through the track on the large kerb of the second turn and then come colliding in full impunity against those who managed to make a better start. It distorts the race and it is something difficult to accept at this level. Pierre followed the instructions perfectly in the final race and was third after the start, though then he slipped back to 9th. He bravely made up for his delay, but the leader had had the time to escape. It's annoying. Having said that, a 7-place recovery over the best drivers in the middle of the European final proves the worth of our driver and his equipment…» The moral of the team is high and the Sodi/Parilla is ready to battle for the rest of the French Championship season and at the World Cup in Braga. The pole position conquered in timed qualifying on Saturday morning was a clear sign of the high potential of Sodi chassis, which have been patiently fine-tuned since the beginning of the season. After winning one of the qualifying heats and conquering the first row for the start of Race 1, Anthony Abbasse's morale was sky high.Unfortunately, Race 1 did not go as expected with Dunlop tyres on the overheated track of Varennes. Abbasse finished 5th with pretty heavily degraded tyres. The team adjusted tactics for the second race, but it was already too late to be able to fight for leadership. Managing as best as he could the difficult grip conditions, Anthony conquered the 4th place in the Championship standings.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

Sodi chassis won relentlessly in all the categories, strengthening their domination of KF3 and KZ2 with Pierre Gasly and Anthony Abbasse in the lead, while Alex Baron showed some brilliant performances in KF2. The hard work done by the whole team since the beginning of the season is now evident in results at all levels, so much so that the team manager, usually very reserved, even went as far as to show a trace of euphoria in his analysis.«I am really happy», Nicola De Cola confessed without needing coaxing, at the end of the weekend. «In KF3, we have reached our cruise speed as far as equipment is concerned. Pierre Gasly has done his job perfectly and now we can win some time with Charles Leclerc's arrival in our team: he is a very good recruit and can go a long way. The two drivers have already been capable of doing a team's race and when Pierre had an engine problem in the final, on Sunday, Charles was ready to secure victory alone». Pierre Gasly perfectly accomplished his mission by hitting the big slam «timed qualifying/pre-final/final» on Saturday, while Charles Leclerc was getting familiar with his new material in race. Léo Roussel - always very effective - from Ludo Racing Team performed remarkably, allowing Sodi to achieve a masterly hat trick in the final and to outclass competition on track. The three drivers repeated their performance the following day, in timed qualifying and in the pre-final. Gasly had started out along the same path in the final, but his engine failed, so Leclerc, who was on the look-out for it, had the chance to climb on the third step of the podium. In the Championship, Gasly increased his advantage in the French Championship ahead of Léo Roussel and Charles Leclerc! Three Sodi Drivers!«We did not expect this superiority in KZ2» SRT team manager continued. «Anthony Abbasse showed some exceptional performances. He is really a very good driver, in excellent form both physically and mentally. Just like our equipment, he is totally ready; I confess that in these conditions, our ambitions largely exceed the GPO frame».Abbasse won it all in the two racing days by showing an impressive domination. Winner of the two pre-finals as well as of the two finals, he did his job like a real pro! Modest as usual, he praised the qualities of his Sodi ST32 BV chassis (... and with reason, given the equally remarkable performances by Pierre Ragues as soon as came out the cabin of his Aston Martin after the 24 Hours of Le Mans) and the effectiveness of his team. Anthony dominates the standings of the KZ2 Championship with 4 victories in 4 races...As for KF2, results were very convincing. «Alex Baron's talent and the qualities of our 2010 chassis demonstrated that now we are on it in every category, while we knew that we were still a bit limited in terms of motorisation in the KF2 category, where level is very high. But we made some important progress with Iame and this is just the beginning. Alex knows how to be patient and we are on the right track on the eve of major events», Nicola De Cola concluded.Pole man, winner of the pre-final and second in Saturday's final, Baron showed the greatest progression of the weekend in the Championship general standings and now follows closely the current leaders.Heightened by the long series of victories conquered by Sodi chassis in all the categories (in France and abroad) as well as by national and international performances, spirits are now sky high with a view to the forthcoming European KZ2 Championship (this weekend in Varennes) and KF2/KF3 Championships (mid-July in Genk).

Leclerc took the torch back in the final race - when Gasly's engine stopped - and conquered another victory for the team. It did not take Charles long, on his first race with Sodi, to benefit from the performances of his new equipment. Gasly and Roussel now occupy the first two places in the Championship standings. Anthony Abbasse relentlessly dominated KZ2 with a perfect score: best times as well as victories in the pre-final and final. As for Alex Baron, he exploited at best his team's work in KF2 with a pole in timed qualifying, victory in the pre-final and a second place in the final race, against a group of very aggressive rivals.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

After some excellent performances in the GPOs, Sodi chassis proved to be equally good in an international configuration."The different types of tyres used in each competition force us to prepare our equipment accordingly», explained Nicola De Cola. «Tyres used in the WSK are the same as in CIK races, so we can work effectively using the best drivers as reference points".Everything went well in KF3, a category where Pierre Gasly proved the competitiveness of his equipment by often showing in the top 10, with several best lap times in race, too. Due to some excessively nervous packs he could not reach his goal entirely, but his performance objective was definitely fulfilled.Anthony Abbasse maintained the lead in KZ1 thanks to his impressive regularity, after improvements made by Sodi to get the maximum in fast bends. The team was also rewarded by a fourth place in the KZ1 Championship on its first season in the WSK. Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

Facing a bunch of fierce rivals led by the leader of the European Championship, Anthony only left Sunday's timed qualifying to competition. Sure, he did not win Saturday's pre-final, but victory would have been his without a borderline manoeuvre of one of his rivals.Abbasse gave his team 3 victories out of 4 and conquered the first place in the French Championship standings. This is how he commented the weekend: «We worked a lot to adjust my chassis according to track conditions and that paid off. With Nicola (De Cola), we defined an ideal racing strategy, which took into account the suction phenomena in the Varennes circuit and some relatively strong wind on Sunday. And results were great!»His extraordinary result was completed by Mathias Gallepe's excellent performance, despite some lack of driving practice on his first race of the year. A regular in the places of honour, the driver from Picardy reached fourth place in the Championship standings. This experience was very instructive for the whole team with a view to the European Championship, due to be held on this same circuit of Varennes in a month's time.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

The team reaped success both in KZ2 with Anthony Abbasse and in KF3 with Pierre Gasly: Sodi drivers monopolized the highest step of the podium four times during the event, so now the French constructor is comfortably in the lead of the race to the national title in both categories. Well-trained after a busy season debut at international level (WSK Euro Series and European CIK Championships), the Sodi Racing Team can go through the rest of the season in full confidence, feeling perfectly at ease thanks to the ST30 and ST32 chassis that made an impression in Varennes and confirmed their excellent performances in many national and international categories since the beginning of the year.Faced with fierce competition at this first meeting of the French Championship, all Sodi drivers proved they were ready to battle...Anthony Abbasse was quick to move to action in KZ2 and started by setting the best time in timed qualifying on Saturday morning, and then he won the final race in the afternoon without striking a blow. The following day, Anthony did not miss the target and achieved double success with pre-final plus final, taking advantage of his technical superiority to devise a winning strategy. «I was able to manage my races according to the strategy defined together with the team, in order to take advantage of suction at the right time while preserving the engine. We did not have a single problem and I really enjoyed myself at the wheel: it was great!» the driver confessed after arrival. He is already solidly in the lead of the French KZ2 Championship, with a highly competitive chassis than can make a difference with a view to forthcoming international events, in particular the European Championship, due to be held in a few weeks' time on this same track of Varennes. And what is more, as many as five drivers on their ST32 BV were in the top ten in the final race, proving once again the extreme effectiveness of Sodi 2010 chassis!Pierre Gasly knew perfectly well how to add the finishing touches to his Sodi/Parilla in KF3 to conquer the first final of the year, on Saturday. The following day, everything was in good order again and results came without difficulty: timed qualifying, pre-final and final. He won it all! Pierre commented: «It is always a pleasure when you climb on the first step of the podium! I am totally satisfied with my equipment, which is really the best in the category. With this result, I cannot but be fully confident about the rest of the season and I am already looking forward to battling again at next international events».In the same category, performances shown by Enzo Marchetti and Léo Roussel, 3rd and 4th respectively in the provisional standings of the Championship, were the icing on the cake after the superb victories by Gasly and Sodi's domination. With some major events looming on the horizon, in particular the European KZ2 Championships - also to be held in Varennes - then KF2 and KF3 in Genk (Belgium), no doubt that the «pilotes Sodi» will be ready for hard battle again very soon. The other drivers are warned...

Relying on the qualities of his Sodi chassis, combined with the power of his Parilla engine, the French team's KF3 official driver raised the tone race after race to score as many points as possible. After winning the final on Saturday, Gasly got the big slam on Sunday, by dominating from timed qualifying to the final race. Thanks to a perfectly adjusted kart and a winning racing strategy, Sodi is now solidly in the lead in KF3 provisional standings, with an advantage of more than 66 points over the other competitors for the title. Other Sodi drivers showed similar, more than encouraging debuts, such as Enzo Marchetti (third) and Léo Roussel (fourth). The whole team have been rewarded for their efforts and feel more determined than ever before the last event of the WSK Euro Series in Sarno (I), next weekend.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP
